Giosa's car crashed into a concrete freeway pillar along the northbound freeway near the Culver City/Inglewood border around 4:04 a.m., CHP Officer Ed Jacobs said.

For unknown reasons, Giosa, known as Johnny G to his fans, allowed his black 1998 Volkswagen Beetle to leave the freeway, and it struck a concrete overpass pillar.

He died at the scene, and there was no one else in the car, the CHP said in a report.

"We have no reason as to why the vehicle left the roadway," said a West LA CHP officer. "It is still under investigation."
