Public Reminded of $50,000 Reward for Postal Carrier Robbery
A U.S. Postal Service employee was robbed at gunpoint while delivering mail in North Hollywood.
The U.S. Postal Inspection Service is reminding the public today about a reward that was first announced back on June 21.
The U.S. Postal Service is offering a reward of up to $50,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for robbing a U.S. Postal Service letter carrier, a crime, and reward, that was only intitially reported about here on Patch.
The carrier was robbed at gunpoint while delivering mail at the 11000 block of Calvert Street in North Hollywood at approximately noon on Friday, June 10. According to information heard over the police scanner by Patch, the only item taken was the carrier's skeleton key ring. The key ring opens the mailboxes and apartment building entrances on the carrier's route.
One robber is described by the Postal Inspection Service as a Hispanic male in his early 20s, with a small build, and approximately 5’5” tall, with short brown hair (shaven) and no facial hair. A second robber is described as a Hispanic male in his mid-to-late-20s, approximately 5’10” tall with a stocky build, shoulder-length brown hair and a brown mustache.
Composite sketches of the two men can be viewed on the Postal Inspection Service Web site. A semi-automatic gun was described as the weapon used and the robbers were reported to have fled in a blue Honda.
According to a press release issued by the U.S. Postal Service, an armed robbery of a United States Postal Service employee is a federal crime, and first-time offenders may be imprisoned for up to 25 years. The suspects should be considered armed and dangerous, and should not be approached. This case is being investigated by the Postal Inspection Service.
