Carpenter and Walter Reed Parents Plan Protest Tuesday
Rallies planned at two major intersections on Tuesday morning.
Parents at Carpenter Community Charter School and Walter Reed Middle School are organizing a rally along Ventura and Laurel Canyon boulevards to protest school budget cuts.
The statewide protest is being coordinated by Educate Our State
Walter Reed parents plan to collect signs and carpool to Ventura and Laurel Canyon boulevards, the busiest intersection in Studio City, and Carpenter parents will join them and also line up at the back of the school, along Laurel Canyon.
The rally takes place at 8:15 to 8:45 a.m. and anyone can join in.
"We want to be very visible, so we need lots of participants with signs supporting funding for California Schools," said Andrew Barrett, Carpenter's PTA president. "Come up with your best slogans! If you need some ideas, check the Educate Our State website: www.educateourstate.org."

Teachers, why don't you go back to the drawing board, and fix your schools. It costs money to run a school, wasteful spending and non effective teaching taps into a finite commodity called, money..tax money...I'm surprised that an "educator" does not have a concept of this..So instead of using our children as pawns in your protests, why don't you "educate yourselves" .Unless you can find educators to work for free, have the gas and electrical and food charges to run a school waived, you have to learn to operate within your means....Due to no oversight (thanks to the isolation from accountability, complements of the UTLA) for the past 20 years, you as a place of learning have shamefully spiraled to the point of becoming a bloated, uninspiring, inefficient and ultimately ineffective mess. For this reason the public is racing towards charter schooling and if fortunate enough to be able to afford it, private schooling all together..Shame on you for clouding the issues..you should be apologizing to all of those parents who are afraid for the quality of their children's education. Just as a private company has to answer to running itself efficiently, so do you..we already have the HIGHEST paid teachers in the country, If your way of doing the business in the teaching of our children is broken, more money wont fix it...

Just FYI, one of the schools participating in this protest, Carpenter, is a high-achieving new CHARTER affiliate school, and those parents feel the need to protest, too...
