Countdown to the Colfax World Fair – Day 10

The biggest annual event in Valley Village takes place Saturday, May 18.

The biggest annual event in Valley Village is coming three weeks earlier than usual. Due to the earlier start of the LAUSD school calendar, the Colfax World Fair this year will be held Saturday, May 18.

Last year the fair attracted as many as 8,000 guests and earned over $100,000 in a single day for Colfax Charter Elementary School, one of the most acclaimed public elementary schools in the San Fernando Valley. Proceeds benefit arts programs, technology, extracurricular activities, and teachers' aids that are underfunded or not supported by the LAUSD budget.

The fair not only takes up the entire school grounds, but also the adjacent Morella Ave. which is closed to traffic for the day to accommodate the fun. There are dozens of games and attractions, two food courts, live entertainment throughout the day, raffles, a huge silent auction, and Toddler Town – an entire area just for babies and toddlers.

For the next 10 days we will be conducting a countdown to the Colfax World Fair by highlighting a particular attraction, game or booth, silent auction item, food vendor, and entertainment act that you will find at this year's Colfax World Fair.

Attraction: Velcro Wall
Step back and take a long running jump and see how high you can mount yourself onto this vertical Velcro wall. You'll have a good idea of what it's like to be Spider-man! Or perhaps a parasite.

Game or Booth: Tattoos
Fortunately for parents, these are only temporary tattoos, but it may take a few dips in the bathtub to get that Ironman tat off your little tyke's torso.

Food: Island BBQ
Hungry for something that will stick to your ribs? How about some actual ribs? Enjoy some truly non-vegan eatin' that will satisfy your appetite for a few more hours of fair fun.

Silent Auction Item:
As Teddy Roosevelt said, “Walk softly and carry a big stick,” or rather a club. A golf club, that is. Some of the Colfax World Fair Silent Auction items include a round of golf for 3 at Tarzana’s Braemar Country Club, two different $25 gift certificates to Weddington Golf & Tennis and two rounds of miniature golf at Sherman Oaks Castle Park.

Entertainment: Violins
Stand softly and carry a big stick, or perhaps just a bow. Weekly violin instruction is part of the Colfax curriculum for all 1st graders and for the second semester of all Kindergartners. Hear these little Bachs and Vivaldis as they glide their way through a repertoire of:

The Colfax World Fair takes place Saturday, May 18th from noon until 7:00 pm at Colfax Charter Elementary School – 11724 Addison St. in Valley Village. Admission and parking are free. Silent Auction items may be viewed by clicking here.
