East Valley News: Possible Suicide on Golden State Freeway; Skeleton With Gunshot Wound Discovered
Here are some of the top stories around the San Fernando Valley.
Sylmar
The southbound Golden State (5) Freeway in Sylmar was reopened today following a closure prompted by the death of a man who may have been bent on suicide when he was struck by a big rig.
The pedestrian was hit in the truck lanes on the southbound 5 near the Antelope Valley (14) Freeway around 10:45 p.m. Thursday and pronounced dead at the scene, said California Highway Patrol Officer Anthony Martin.
The body of a man could be seen on a divider separating the truck lanes from the car lanes, a news camera crew reported. Officers at the scene told the camera crew that the death would be investigated as a possible suicide.
The southbound truck lanes were closed until just before 12:45 a.m., Martin said.
Lake View Terrace
A skeleton found in Lopez Canyon in an unincorporated area near Lake View Terrace had a gunshot wound to the skull, a sheriff's lieutenant said today.
The body was located on Monday on Lopez Canyon Road, a half-mile north of Bailey Road, about 11:15 a.m., said Lt. Mary Leef.
Detectives also found a handgun nearby, Leef said.
The coroner's office will determine the cause and manner of death. The investigation is continuing, Leef said.
