The hit-and-run driver's vehicle was described as black Ford Ranger or GMC SUV with a flat right rear tire, Moreno said.

"We did an intensive search of the area around the accident site but could not locate the vehicle," Moreno said. "Right now the driver is wanted for felony hit-and-run, but other charges could follow, depending on what the detectives determine."

According to the Los Angeles Times, detectives questioned a person described as a suspect at USC Medical Center.

Police asked anyone with information to call the LAPD's Valley Traffic Division at (818) 644-8000, and said all tips can be made anonymously.
