A man driving on Cahuenga Boulevard in North Hollywood on Monday lost control of his vehicle while allegedly breathing an inhalant and crashed into a fast-food restaurant, injuring himself as well as two adults and their 3-year-old child, police said. The family reportedly suffered minor injuries.

"When the officers got here [the driver] was still sucking and breathing in out of the cans, which is a computer duster cleaner," said Los Angeles Police Capt. Ivan Minsal of the Valley Traffic Division. "He was inhaling it, so he is being arrested for DUI. He is in stable condition."

The driver was identified as Geoffrey Hathaway, 35, of North Hollywood in a police bulletin. The man, who is 6 feet 4 and weighs 235 pounds, was placed under arrest at the Los Angeles Police Department's Van Nuys jail.

Officers responded to a report of the crash at about 11:35 a.m. at Tom's Burgers No. 7, at 5571 N. Cahuenga Blvd.

Investigating officers could be seen removing ammunition and computer cleaner from the black Infiniti G35 Coupe, which was heading north on Cahuenga before the crash.

"As you can see, the officers found firearms, a pistol, ammunition, all these computer-cleaner-duster propellant cans, which he was sucking on," Minsal said. "This may be a new avenue of intoxication."

The injured family, who were inside the restaurant at the time of the crash, and the driver were taken by ambulance to Providence Saint  Joseph Medical Center in Burbank. The driver, who was alone in the car, was reported to be in serious but stable condition.
