The Begleys Cruise Down the Los Angeles River

They were amazed at the view.

The got a private cruise down the Los Angeles River, getting a bird's-eye (and fish-eye) view of Los Angeles from an unusual perspective.

Ed thought it was wonderful, and his wife and daughter Hayden paddled along the way.

They were escorted by tour guide Shelly Backlar from the (FOLAR) and accompanied by their "" crew Raphael Sbarge and Tim Redmond, the associate producer. (Click here for the official site.)

The LA Conservation Corps takes the kayakers through a short safety training session.

They explain the trip like this:

WHAT TO EXPECT
Our river adventure will be at the Sepulveda Recreation Basin in the San Fernando Valley segment of the LA River. The expedition is a short roundtrip paddle that will take approximately 1 hour. There will be ten (10) guests in each group along with your LA Conservation Corps guides. All kayaks, paddles, safety helmets & other required equipment will be provided.

Kayaking and canoeing are water activities that will require some effort on your part. You will get wet, you may be asked to help haul your kayak/canoe, climb over some rocks, and keep close to the group (however, you should not do anything that you believe is beyond your capability).  You may lose items that are not properly secured.

WHAT TO BRING
Bring a hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, and shoes with rubber soles. Water sandals that have a good rubber grip are fine. Flip flops are not allowed and you will not be allowed on the kayak/canoe without the proper shoe gear. You should wear comfortable clothing that dries quickly when it gets wet. We suggest you bring an extra set of clothing to change into dry attire upon your return.

For keys or other absolutely necessary items, bring your own waterproof bag or container.  The guides and the program itself are not responsible for any lost items, items that fall into the river, or items left in your car.

WHAT NOT TO BRING
Please leave all valuables at home. Pets & children are not allowed. All spots are full and we will not be able to accommodate additional guests.
