A five-piece jazz quintet from the Los Angeles Jazz Society played a free concert as part of their "Jazz in Schools" program at Coldwater Canyon Elementary School in North Hollywood, which aims to teach children about the musical form during Black History Month.

The L.A. Jazz Society was founded in 1985 by musicians who believe in keeping the love and life of jazz alive in the community.

This year, 45 Los Angeles Unified School District elementary schools will have the opportunity to hear a free, live jazz education concert. The band featured Thursday included band leader Charles Owens on sax and woodwinds, Louahn Lowe on piano, John Belzaguy on bass, Rahnlee Davis and trumpet and Clayton Cameron on drums.
