'Urban Death' Extended Into August

Zombie Joe's staple show is full of thrills and laughs.

Zombie Joe's Underground Theater announced today that its staple show, Urban Death, has been extended through August 13. The show had originally been scheduled to go on hiatus in early July.

Last week, Patch ran the following review of Urban Death:

Zombie Joe's Underground Theater puts on a regular horror show every Saturday night.

I checked out Urban Death back in October and it was certainly a visceral experience. What really stuck out and surprised me was how funny the show was. I sat down prepared to be shocked, horrified and scared, but walked away chuckling about the little girl in the pajamas who started to blow a large bubble gum bubble that turned out to be a condom.

Patch writer Fred Topel shortly before it went on hiatus and perhaps summed up Urban Death best:

"Urban Death is a collection of 46 horror vignettes. Some are shocking and scary. Some are inappropriately funny. Some are just disturbing."

But putting Urban Death into words will never really do it full justice, especially because the show itself lacks dialogue of any kind. There's plenty of laughing and screaming, both in the audience and onstage, but no words are spoken.

Patch theater critic Radomir Luza dropped by the other night to but also stuck around to check out Urban Death. He had this to say:

"This unimprovised improvisation has Zombie Joe written all over it. It must be seen to be believed."
