What's Up: "Awake and Sing," Author Reading and More

1: Head to the Lonny Chapman Theatre for a performance of Awake and Sing. Set in the Bronx in the 1930s, this timeless  American classic takes us into the heart and home of the Berger Family where  first generation ideals clash with the younger generation's struggle for independence and freedom. Fri/Sat 8 p.m.  Sun 2 p.m.  Talk-back Sundays:  Oct.6 and 27.  Admission: $22. 3: The annual Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios has begun (http://www.halloweenhorrornights.com/hollywood/2013/), but if you’re looking for something a little more tame for the kids, the Toluca Lake Pumpkin Festival is open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily through Oct. 31, complete with a pumpkin Patch and petting zoo at 10601 Riverside Drive, Toluca Lake
