What's Up: 'High School Ghost Story,' Halloween Horror Nights and More

1: Come enjoy fun fall festivities in a safe and sensory friendly environment at The Shape of Behavior. We will have kid friendly festive music playing softly and tasteful decorations. Kids of all ages are welcome to play games, do crafts and paint pumpkins. Refreshments will be served. There will be candy as well as gluten free cookies and fruit for our gluten sensitive guests. Event is free and is being held at 10623 Riverside Dr. Start time is 6 p.m.

2: 1: Head to the Lonny Chapman Theatre for a performance of Awake and Sing. Set in the Bronx in the 1930s, this timeless  American classic takes us into the heart and home of the Berger Family where  first generation ideals clash with the younger generation's struggle for independence and freedom. Fri/Sat 8 p.m.  Sun 2 p.m.  Talk-back Sundays:  Oct. 27.  Admission: $22. Seniors/Students: $17.  Groups 10+: $15.  Ladies Night Fridays: Ladies ½ price.

3: High School Ghost Story, an original production, is debuting at the Avery Schreiber Playhouse. Presented by the Mirror Theatre Co., students who are working on rehearsing a mysterious play are haunted by spirits of productions past and all sorts of spectral beings who linger after the final bell. Tickets are $20 and can be purchased by visiting http://www.mirrortheatercompany.homestead.com/Box-Office.html. Showtime is at 8 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays and 7 p.m. on Sundays. Play runs through Nov. 24. The Avery Schreiber Playhouse, 4934 Lankershim Blvd. 

4: The annual Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios has begun (http://www.halloweenhorrornights.com/hollywood/2013/), but if you’re looking for something a little more tame for the kids, the Toluca Lake Pumpkin Festival is open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily through Oct. 31, complete with a pumpkin Patch and petting zoo at 10601 Riverside Dr., Toluca Lake.

5: Expect patchy fog in the morning with an overall high of 81 for the day, according to the National Weather Service.
