Special Olympics Southern California Honors Lauren Katunich with Outstanding Volunteer Award

Special Olympics Southern California (SOSC) is pleased to announce Lauren Katunich as this year’s recipient of the Michael W. Harahan Outstanding Adult Volunteer Award for Tri-Valley Region.

 

This award honors volunteers’ accomplishments within SOSC, as well as their hard work and dedication to help Special Olympics athletes succeed and reach their goals.

Katunich serves as a year round head coach for soccer and athletics and has been a part of SOSC for 14 years. Throughout her time with SOSC, Katunich has participated in several ways, including serving on the Regional Leadership committee and providing fundraising assistance.

According to local Tri-Valley Region staff, Katunich takes great care in getting to know her athletes and encourages them to keep improving their skills and stamina. She emphasizes all aspects of good athletic performance and stresses the importance of hydrating and warming up. She has earned a lot of respect from the athletes and others around her.

 

The Michael W. Harahan Outstanding Adult Volunteer Award has been recognizing volunteers that go above and beyond since 1999, through funding provided by the Simmons-Balser Foundation. The award is presented to stand-out individuals from each Special Olympics Southern California regional program and recipients are selected by their peers.
