3 New Art Shows the Round Out Year at NoHo Senior Arts Colony

There's been no shortage of exhibits at the NoHo Senior Arts Colony since the development had its grand opening earlier this year. Three additional shows were recently announced that will run for the rest of 2013.

July 9 - August 21:  “A Vanishing Art - Hand Colored Photographs” by Cynthia Friedlob

This show, which features additional photography by John Semper Jr. is centered around the concept of art created by hand.

“Computers have made it easy to add color to photographs and, while some very artistic results are possible, the process does not result in a one-of-a-kind, finished work of art,” says Friedlob, the artist for this show.  “It's sort of like the difference between mass production versus artisan-made, hand-crafted art. Also, there's something to be said for the value of keeping a traditional art form alive in the digital age.”

August 27 - October 9:  “Caffeine Doodles” by Jan Edward Vogels

The art of “doodling” is taken to a new level in this show, which features a combination of brightly colored, hand drawn abstractions which are assembled into captivating montages.
The free opening reception for this show will take place on Tuesday, August 27 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. The public is invited to attend and enjoy refreshments, live entertainment and a chance to meet the artist.

December 3 - January 15, 2014:  “Wabi Sabi” by Dan Meylor

This photography show is centered around the Japanese theory of Wabi Sabi, which focuses on the third stage of the life cycle.
The artist notes that his photography is influenced by his years growing up on the prairie; a photographic journalistic interest in social issues; as well as a core belief in the truth of the statement “to everything there is a season.”

The public is invited to attend the free opening reception for this show on Tuesday, December 3 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.to enjoy refreshments, live music, and a meeting with the artist.
