All Sports Film Festival to Take Over El Portal This Weekend

The El Portal Theatre in NoHo is known for hosting colorful musicals and plays, but this weekend it'll play host to the art of athleticism and the never-give-up attitude of athletes.

The Daily News reports that the three-day All Sports LA Festival kicks off on Friday and will screen 54 movies from 11 countries.

“I’ll get all kinds of sports submitted,” Pat Battistini, who led the selection committee, told the publication. “What our definition is is something competitive, whether it’s mental or physical. We had a documentary one year about junior high school students who built robots that competed against each other with soccer balls.”

Featured titles include Walk On, a documentary about a 21-year-old who yearned to participate in the 6.2-mile Los Angeles AIDS Walk.

The event will close with an award ceremony dedicated to Bruce Jenner, Tai Babilonia and Randy Gardner and an auction to benefit Paralyzed Veterans of America.
