What is Going on This Weekend?

Here is a curated nightlife and events calendar.

Hi there. Do you know what you’re doing this weekend? I’m curating an eclectic list of events every week so you’ll never have to ask yourself “what is there to do?” I’ll usually focus on nightlife, but I’ll occasionally throw in some daytime events (can’t forget about things like gelato and bike rides). I’ve handpicked the best of theatre, art, music, food, and drinks, but if you ever need further guidance, or have an amazing tip, send me an email. Happy weekend!

HAPPY HOUR

5:30 p.m. Head over to Bar One for your first post-work drink. They have $3 Sangria and Sapporo during happy hour. Tip: Request a “Super Sangria” if your day was really atrocious. Sometimes they serve popcorn and play awesome movies in the background.

THEATRE

7:00 p.m. The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee opens at Eclectic Company Theatre. Based on earlier versions I’ve seen of this play, I predict that it will be hilarious and clever. If you’d rather spend your Friday night at a bar drinking away your week or gorging on vegan sausages and beer, read on. (But check out this play sometime before it ends on March 27. Shows Fridays & Saturdays at 7 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m.)

5312 Laurel Canyon Blvd. For tickets, go to www.ctgsc.org. $15.

FOOD + BEER

9 p.m. Where can you find vegan sausages, corkless wine, and local craft beers in the same room with a bookshelf of boardgames? My favorite dive bar in the east valley, (which is impeccably clean for a dive bar). Don’t worry, carnivorous Angelenos, they have non-vegan sausages as well. Play a game of Monopoly, Pictionary, or Scrabble while you snack on homemade potato chips and ketchup.

1710 West Magnolia Blvd.

Saturday

LUNCH

12 p.m.  Check out Chef Louis' brand new lunch menu at . Menu items include a beet salad with orange, feta, and basil, and a Romenesca hot pressed sandwich with tomato confeit and spec ham.

5303 Lankershim Blvd.

ART

7 p.m. Opening Reception: Rico Adair is officially opening his new gallery and boutique on Saturday night. The show will feature sculpture, photography, screen prints, mixed media, paintings, and more. Wine and appetizers will be served.

5310 Laurel Canyon Blvd.

7 p.m. Next door, Carter Sexton is holding an opening reception for Christopher Naylor. His show, “Architectural Abstraction and Beyond,” will be on display through April 2. Reception ends at 10 p.m. Wine and appetizers will also be served. I suggest hitting up both of these galleries for a miniature art crawl.

5308 Laurel Canyon Blvd.

Sunday

GIRLS + ICE CREAM

1 p.m.  The Other Door is holding a Femme Festivale until 5:00 p.m., featuring artists, DJs, and food trucks. The purveyor of finely curated ice cream sandwiches, CoolHaus, will be in the parking lot to satisfy your gourmet sweet tooth. (Sea salt caramel ice cream with peanut butter banana cookies, anyone?)

10437 Burbank Blvd.

MUSIC

8 p.m. It’s Sunday night and you want to relax at home with a new record. Bring that record to instead, where DJ’s Brutha Gimel & DJ Alwayz are spinning a blend of 80s, punk, and hip hop. Don’t have a vinyl handy or worried that you’ll spill a martini on a vintage MJ album? Skinny’s Hot Wax Martini Lounge has an ample collection of records to choose from. Consider the DJ’s human jukeboxes.

4923 Lankershim Blvd.
