No Injuries in Commercial Structure Fire

More than 160 Los Angeles firefighters fought a stubborn fire in a large commercial structure in Sun Valley Monday.

The fire in the 9400 block of Telfair Avenue, near Sheldon Street, was reported at 5:09 p.m., said Brian Humphrey of the Los Angeles Fire Department.

More than an hour later, the number of firefighters had increased from under 100 to 161, Humphrey said.

"It's a very stubborn fire," Humphrey said.

It was not clear what kind of business it was, but it contained a large volume of cardboard and chemicals. There was a large nursery outside the building.

Firefighters initially fought the fire on the roof of the building, but they backed off after the roof began caving in. As of 6:15 p.m., firefighters had no indication when it was be knocked down.

"Luckily there are no injuries," Humphrey said.

Although the building was close to a residential neighborhood, no evacuations were declared, Humphrey said.
