Blastoff Comics Hosting Anniversary Event on Saturday

NoHo's very own comic book shop turns 1.

It's been a little more than a year since Blastoff opened and has been the lair for comic books in NoHo.

To celebrate, the shop at 5118 Lankershim Blvd. is hosting an anniversary event on Saturday from noon to 3 p.m. featuring signings by artists Harlan Ellison, Paul Chadwick and Ken Steacy, according to nohoartsdistrict.com.

Jud Meyers opened Blastoff in late 2012 and is no stranger to the comic book business. He's owned other stores in the past, ran a website and has been dealing in high-end titles with investors for years.

"What's really surprising is how many kids there are coming into the shop. Families are moving into the area because of the growth and affordability," Meyers told nohoartsdistrict.com. So now we've got different generations and genders all mingling together within our four walls. For a retailer, there's nothing better.
