Boutique Hotel Could Replace Maximillian's Restaurant in NoHo

A hospitality group is looking to build a four-story boutique hotel at the site of the now-shuttered Austro-Hungarian eatery Maximillian's in the NoHo Arts District.

The proposal is still in its early stages as the city's planning department has yet to review the entitlement application submitted in late June.

Ikon Hospitality bought the 18,230-square-foot lot at 11326 Weddington Ave. a few months after Maximillian's went out of business. The property includes an large parking lot and an on-site duplex used for storage.

Nikhil Kamat, the architect for the hotel project, says Ikon owns more than a dozen hotel properties throughout Los Angeles, including the Best Western Burbank Airport Inn at Lankershim Boulevard and Saticoy Street.

The project design calls for 43 rooms and an additional unit for an on-site manager. A fitness room and an area for local artists to showcase their works are part of the plan, Kamat said.

The proposal has already won support from the Mid-Town NoHo Neighborhood Council's Land Use Committee and the board of directors is scheduled to vote on recommending the development at its Sept. 11 meeting.
