Convenience Store Opening on Vineland Avenue

Operating out of a commercial building, NoHo Market seeks to be a stop for snacks and some basic household goods.

An 1,800-square-foot convenience stocked with snacks, sodas and household cleaning products is opening in a few weeks on a quiet stretch of Vineland Avenue home to few retailers.

Located at the ground floor of a 4942 Vineland Ave. commercial building, NoHo Market part-owner Allen Yadegar came up with the idea for the business when he noticed apartment residents nearby had a lack of places to shop within a short walking distance.

"If you live in this apartment and you just want to go buy a pack of cigarettes or a can of coke or candy for your kid, there's no where to go unless you get in a car and drive all the way to Ralphs," Yadegar said.

Cigarettes are also to be sold, but there are no plans for now to add alcohol to the inventory, he said.

Yadegar manages Warner Plaza Urgent Care, located in the same commercial building, and is teaming with a business partner for this separate venture. He also helps manage the property, owned by Yekta Properties.

Coffee and donuts would be available in the morning, he said. Yadegar said he hopes to one day sell fruit, veggies and meat products.

If the business is successful, he says he would add more square footage by taking over space from a neighboring unit once home to Happy Days, a medical marijuana dispensary.

The pot clinic was subleasing until it was evicted last October, Yadegar said. He added that he "highly doubts" another dispensary would be allowed to operate at the commercial building again.
