George Barris: 'King of Kustom Cars' Charges In With Wheels for 'Arthur'

North Hollywood-Toluca Lake Patch salutes one of its most successful businessmen, whose unusual custom vehicles have been featured in many movies and TV shows over the decades, including 'Arthur,' opening Friday.

North Hollywood-Toluca Lake Patch has officially declared this George Barris Week on the site.

The film Arthur, which opens Friday, will be another in a very long line of films that feature an automobile designed by Barris—in this case, the Batmobile, which is used in several scenes.

Barris Kustom Industries has been located in North Hollywood for over 50 years. If you haven't heard of Barris, you certainly have seen his work. Name a famous car from a TV show or movie and there's a good chance Barris designed it or built it: The Batmobile, the General Lee from The Dukes of Hazzard, Ecto 1 from Ghostbusters, the Bluesmobile from The Blues Brothers, the truck from The Beverly Hillbillies, the Munster Mobile ... the list goes on and on.
