Grilled Cheese and Cupcake Company Faces Eviction

The eatery has not opened its doors since August.

A few weeks ago, Patch reported on the unusual silence surrounding the Grilled Cheese and Cupcake Company.

The Laurel Canyon Plaza business, which launched in February, hasn't opened in more than a month, while all of the equipment and furniture appeared untouched.

The storefront had to shut down for a few days at the end of July to obtain a health permit from LA County's Department of Health Services and after doing so, it was given the green light to reopen.

Apparently, that never happened.

Still clinging to hope that I'd one day try their sandwiches, I tried contacting owner Dorian Dan to no avail, but it looks like I now have an answer regarding the eatery's future.

I stopped by the business Monday and saw an eviction notice on the front door.

Robert Scholnick, an attorney for North Oak Property Management, the strip mall's owner, said that Dan's business was being evicted due to non-payment of rent.

But there is no fixed time yet as to how long the Grilled Cheese and Cupcake Company has to vacate Laurel Canyon Plaza, Scholnick said.

While peering into the eatery on Monday, I also noticed that the tables and chairs as well as the soda fridge were removed.

Dorian could not be reached for comment at press time.

As for me, I must forge on and continue on my pilgrimage to find the best sandwich in town. Anyone know where I can find a good grilled cheese?
