Idle Hour Cafe Revival Expected Sometime in 2014

A lot of work is going on that's being covered up by a wall set up in front the historic building.

It might not look like much is going on at the Idle Hour Cafe since the walls of the barrel-shaped building were stripped to reveal its structural skeleton, but the man spearheading the historic site's revitalization says the project is chugging along.

"I guess all the work that's being done is on the ground floor and in the back so you can't see much behind the wall, but yes, lot's has been done and were still on track for sometime in 2014," said Bobby Green, owner of 1933 Group, which owns and operates several bars throughout LA.

His company purchased Idle Hour last year and contracted Wadeco Design for the overhaul that kicked off in July.

The Vineland Avenue building in NoHo first opened in 1941 and later went on to be named La Cana. It's remained closed since 1984.

Establishments run by 1933 Group include Sassafras in Hollywood and the Thirsty Crow in Silver Lake.

"At some point in a few months from now were going to need to rally neighborhood support for our food, liquor, Entertainment licenses etc.," Green said.

Wadeco has posted a photo gallery of the restoration in progress.
