Idle Since '84, Idle Hour Cafe Set to Return

An old landmark may be restored.

The former Idle Hour Cafe and La Cana Restaurant is set to be renovated and reopened, according to Los Angeles Magazine.

Known as one of Los Angeles' last standing programmatic buildings (buildings that look like objects, like the Brown Derby) the barrel-shaped Idle Hour Cafe in NoHo on Vineland Avenue just north of Camarillo Street was opened in 1941 and was last open as a business in 1984 as La Cana, according to Curbed LA.

Now, after an auction on Saturday and its preservation as a City of Los Angeles Historic-Cultural Monument due to the efforts of Los Angeles Magazine's Chris Nichols, and its recent purchase at an auction by the owners of the Bigfoot Lodge in Los Feliz, the Idle Hour Cafe is set to return.

There is no word on when construction will begin, but we will keep our eyes peeled.

Hi! Yes, something is definitely happening there. I've stopped by a few times in hopes of bumpingRead More into the new owner but I haven't been so lucky. I've left my business card with a few construction workers but no one has gotten back to me so far. From what the workers told me, it's going to be a new restaurant. Those are all the details I have for now, but I'll keep you posted as soon as I found out more. Thanks!
ok thank you

I'm ready to stick a bike lane in the middle of the produce aisle at Ralphs at this point.

But first, we must develop credibility by learning how to spell and construct a sentence.
