New Bar Takes Over Chez Nous; Luca's Spot

The shuttered Luca's seafood restaurant that lasted less than a year in Toluca Lake has been revived as a bar and art gallery.

Open Wednesdays through Saturdays, Luca's Lounge at 10550 Riverside Dr. takes up half of the first floor due to a newly installed dividing wall with a breakfast and lunch spot set to open on the other side sometime next January.

The new spot is dimly lit with lots of cushioned furniture scattered about. The seating is joined by wine, cocktails and a small offering of California craft brews.

At the helm is Lucy's 51 owner Baret Lepejian, who bought French bakery Ches Nouz last year and converted into Luca's, a seafood eatery that might have tried to be too many things at once.

"I think maybe before we were trying to do a little too much," said Luca's Lounge manager Alexandra D'Alessio. "We had a bakery, a sushi bar, a restaurant and a bar. It was very cool, but I think it was a lot for people to grasp. This is just simple."

The bar currently has artworks by Norman Clarke hung on its walls and a new artist is expected to be featured each month, D'Alessio said.

Luca's Lounge's hours are 5 p.m. to 2 a.m.
