NoHo's District Pub Opening Early 2014

A new gastropub in the heart of NoHo that will serve up craft brews, burgers and exotic sausages is slated to open shortly after New Year's Day.

The District Pub, located at 5249 Lankershim Blvd., has 24 tap handles behind a bar lined with glossy wood and metal chairs scattered around to create a "rustic industrial" look.

"We're going to have beers from local breweries, German beer, Belgian beer," said co-owner and manager Robert Rostomyan, adding: " We've got a lot of IPAs, Pilsners, stouts and seasonal brews."

But Rostomyan says he'd rather lay low about which breweries would be having their kegs tapped until the District Pub opens. He was, however, a bit more open to talking about the menu.

The signature dish will be the District Burger featuring Creek Stone beef, he said.

"We're also going to have alligator sausage, duck, lamb and wild game," Rostomyan said. "We're always going to switch them around to see what the neighborhood craves."

He added breweries would be invited for tap takeover events and that since the establishment is in the NoHo Arts District, local artists would be welcome on occasion to hang up their works on the walls.

And just because there's two TVs and a projector doesn't mean the District Pub is aiming to become a sports bar, Rostomyan said.

There might be a night or two where football or baseball games could be shown, but the screens will likely be reserved for music videos and silent film screening nights.

Rostomyan, who calls himself a beer geek, says overall, a casual hangout spot in the neighborhood is what he's going for.

"You don't have to be dressed up," he said. "It's a comfortable vibe."
