Pay Parking at NoHo Commons Starts Monday

Fifteen minutes of parking will cost $1.50 come the beginning of the week.

The days of free parking at the are winding down.

that come Aug. 15, it would cost $1.50 to park for 15 minutes at the shopping center's lot and $15 for the entire day.

But a few technical issues delayed the implementation of the fees until Monday, said Paul Gnasso, regional director of Ace Parking Management.

Gnasso said paying for parking is one of the ways to make sure that people who use the NoHo Commons lot shop and dine at the shopping center.

He added that several businesses would be offering two-hour free parking validation.

It makes sense that they implemented this. People have admitted to using this parking for places other than the NoHo Commons shops. This parking lot becomes overcrowded all the time. Now only those who should be using this lot will with the validations.

What shops are validating? I stopped going to Coffee Bean there because I don't want to pay a $1.50 on a $4 drink.

At Cricket, well this begs the question, where were you parking for Coffee Bean up until now? If you were doing street parking and paying a dime in the meter to run in and out for 6 minutes or quarter for 15 minutes, that is not changing. Additionally, some of the merchants that will be offering validated parking will include The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf, so now there will be no charge as before in the parking structure. Why would you have stopped (past tense) going to Coffee Bean since the parking charge in the structure has yet to go into effect??

Although I disagree with "LA Born And Raised" that this parking lot was ever crowded - there were always HUNDREDS of spaces available toward the back of the lot - at least charging for parking means you will never be towed. I saw people coming out of the 24-hour fitness club who were towed. A lot of the people who use the bank, Daphne's, etc also go to other businesses, like El Portal Theatre. Our patrons don't just come to the theatre and then leave; they have dinner at Panera, see a show at the theatre, then have a drink at the Federal or Big Wang's afterward. Previously, these people were being punished by a policy that was entirely up to the parking guard - and these guys didn't exactly graduate magna cum laude. Now you know you will have to pay, but you also know your car will be there when you want to leave! Parking is also available at the lot right across the street from the Loft parking, behind the Art Institute building, meters are still free after 6 and all day Sunday, the Federal has great valet parking for $8 full-price (cheaper with validation), and the city has lots on Magnolia and at the metro station. Come to NoHo, park at a safe lot, and enjoy the MANY dining and entertainment options the district has to offer.

Bravo! thanks for your attempts El Portal Theatre to inform the public, many of whom are woefully unaware of the options that do exist in and around the NoHo Arts District. At first glance it may seem like immediate parking may be unavailable, however there are choices to be had. It is either up to the Businesses in the area to inform its patrons or up to the patrons to look around a little and inform themselves. Every more densely packed area in the greater LA area has the same challenges, whether it be Venice, or Santa Monica, WeHo, Hollywood, K-Town or Downtown, Pasadena and yes of course NoHo. But gladly these areas also represent a more interesting urban environment that will continue to draw patrons who crave a pedestrian oriented fabric.

Often a visit to Coffee Bean or Panera means working, writing or studying - more than 2 hours for sure. Now that the Laemmle is there, maybe I want to go to a show? Or workout before I grab a coffee? Now, I have to pay extra for the parking? No thanks. I'm going elsewhere. So tired of all the greed in this city, using our cars to leverage money out of us. Despicable.
