Senior Housing on Vineland Opening in September

After a year of construction, an 82-unit affordable housing complex for seniors at 4900 Vineland Ave. is nearing completion and a move-in date is set for Sept. 1.

The 18th project by Menorah Housing Foundation stands four stories tall near the "five points" intersection with Lankershim Boulevard and Camarillo Street.

Applications to move in stop being accepted months ago and the one-bedroom apartments are reserved for very low-income seniors that earn about $12,000 annually, said Anne Friedrich, president of the foundation.

"The development is very close to transit services," she said, adding: "There's all kinds of shopping, everything our tenants want is nearby, like the North Hollywood Senior Center."

The project's construction cost $12 million and was mostly federally funded combined with private investments.
