Spin the Bottle Wine Readies for Toluca Lake Opening

The wine shop will pour samples for patrons and let them buy bottles of the ones they like.

It's just a matter of days before Spin the Bottle wine studio starts popping corks and selling bottles out of its Toluca Lake storefront at 10139 1/2 Riverside Dr.

"The main component here that's different than most places is that you'll be able to take wine home with you that you've tasted," said Doug LaGambina, who's opening the place with business partner Scott Kay.

There will be six wines at a time, three reds and three whites, on tap and a few bottles off the shelf opened for tasting. Patrons can also enjoy any bottle they purchase at the shop for a small corkage fee, LaGambina said.

Most of the 120-150 bottles to be stocked will be from California, Oregon and upstate New York coupled with offerings from across the pond, he said.

"There will be a big domestic component here, but we're also going to have a very strong selection of Italian wines that you won't find around here much," said LaGambina.

He also owns Wood & Vine in Hollywood and plans on bringing some dishes like pate and truffle potato chips to Spin the Bottle alongside other munchies.

LaGambina said said there will also be a series of paid tasting events with winemakers.

Spin the Bottle is expected to open sometime next week with operating hours from noon to 9 p.m. on Tuesdays through Saturdays and noon to 5 p.m. on Sundays.
