What Should Replace This Empty Store at Lankershim-Vineland Strip Mall?

The space has been vacant for at least a little more than a year and used to be home to an Armenian deli.

Last year was a big year for the strip mall at Lankershim Boulevard and Vineland Avenue; a new Habit Burger and CVS Pharmacy opened for business, helping to revitalize the shopping center that sits on a corner of the busy "5-Points Intersection."

But since those grand openings, one storefront has been left virtually untouched. If you look at the pictures from Patch's coverage of the Habit opening, you'll notice that 4762 Lankershim Blvd., nestled between a laundromat and a coin laundry spot, is empty.

Nothing has changed about 15 months later. After doing some digging, I found that the store was once home to Hy Mart Deli.

The strip mall's landlord could not be reached for comment. There are no signs indicating that a new tenant is coming and the property does not seem to be listed on major leasing websites like Loopnet.com.

So for now, 4762 Lankershim Blvd. remains a bit of mystery due to the scarcity of details about the vacant space, but Patch will keep you updated if anything becomes of it.

In the meantime, what do you think should be done with the empty storefront?

THere arent many really nice bakeries in the area--that have reasonably priced bread and cakes. Panera is too high priced. A nice bakery would be great-cause I really also miss the donut shop!

I received an email from the owner of CA chicken cafe that they wanted the spot that the Habit burger was in. I wonder if they'd want the former Hy Mart space. Might be a little tight.

CA chicken cafe would be great at the available location of the closed blockbuster by Chinese Deli... and MyGym.... of course it would put JavaSmoothie out of business though...

Famima the Japanese convenience store would be awesome! I would also like to see a Fresh and Easy Express, American Apparel or a vegan store!

The renovation really spruced up the whole mini-mall, and aside from the new Habit and CVS, the entire facade was renovated and the parking lot was repaved. I'm surprised all this upgrading didn't attract a tenant. That's got to be the busiest intersection in all of North Hollywood.

Of course my guess is that if the property owner wasn't so greedy, the previous owner Hy Mart Sandwiches would likely still be there. They moved accross the street to 4795 Vineland Ave. and is doing just fine in their new location. 4 1/2 stars on Yelp with 215 reviews says so. So the property owner sits with an empty store for a year - just deserts, I'd say ! P,S.: Why doesn't the Cleaners replace their old faded signs?

I agree with Jack M... if the property owner(s) weren't SO GREED.. they could get a good tenant in there.. Hy Mart was there for many years, until they raised their rent to an unacceptable amount... maybe they should wake up and smell the roses.... or the coffee.. or the bakery... too small for Fresh and Easy, same with the jerks across the street where the blockbuster used to be, and before that Ralphs. The owners just want the $$ and don't want to spend any $$ to bring the standards up... GREEDY

Is it too small for a Fresh and Easy Express?

I can't believe I'm saying this, but every time I go to that mall I long for a Starbucks! Or any good place to get a coffee.

The reason why the landlord will not call you back is since the addition of the habit and cvs the quiet center has turned into a bustling center. I am sure the landlord is making money hand over fist. It doesn't care about leasing that tiny space which is probably difficult to lease.

See my comment below when you ink a deal for the giant cvs. And the decent sized habit, you tend to worry less about renting tiny spaces or if hy mart doesn't want to pay the additional rent.
