DirecTV and Time Warner Cable, which have not been able to agree on terms for delivering Dodger games to DirecTV subscribers, appeared unable today to even agree whether they are still in negotiation.

Time Warner Cable, which is handling distribution of the new Dodgers-owned channel SportsNet LA, said DirecTV has ended serious negotiations.

"DirecTV has advised us that they will not carry the Dodgers this year, and they have walked away from the negotiating table," Melinda Witmer, Time Warner Cable's executive vice president and chief video and content officer, said in comments reported by the Los Angeles Times.

But a DirecTV spokesman countered that "nothing could be further from the truth." The company said it was prepared to continue trying to clinch a deal.

DirecTV has said the price Time Warner Cable is seeking for the Dodgers is excessive and that it wants to sell SportsNet LA on an individual or a la carte basis. Time Warner Cable say its price is reasonable and that no regional sports networks are offered a la carte.
