Warmer Weather Returning Thursday

A high wind warning will be in effect until 3 p.m.

More high winds swept the Southland Wednesday as the region remained engulfed in a mass of cold air, but temperatures were inching back up and expected to revert to the 70s on Thursday.

Once again, the fiercest winds howled across the San Gabriel Mountains, where the  National Weather Service reported overnight gusts of 56 miles per hour at Chilao and 49 mph at Whitaker Peak.

A high wind warning will be in effect until 3 p.m. Thursday in the San Gabriel mountains, where the forecast calls for sustained winds of between 25 and 35 miles per hour and 60-mile-per-hour gusts.

At the same time, a less ominous wind advisory will be in force  in the Santa Monica Mountains Recreational Area and the San Fernando and Santa Clarita valleys. The wind will blow at speeds of between 15 and 25 miles per hour, gusting to 35 mph, in the areas subject to the wind advisory.

The winds will be strongest late tonight and Thursday morning, according to the NWS.

Following a frigid morning, temperatures will rise under bright sunshine today, netting out a few degrees higher than Tuesday.

The NWS forecast highs today of 52 on Mount Wilson; 56 in Palmdale; 57 in Lancaster;  62 in Avalon; 63 in Saugus; 64 at LAX; 67 in Long Beach, San Gabriel, Burbank and downtown L.A.; 68 in Pasadena and Woodland Hills; and 69 in Newport Beach and Anaheim. Thursday's highs are forecast to be around eight degrees higher.
