Day of the Cowboy and Cowgirl
Dust off your trail duds, bring all your kin, and come on down to the Autry for a daylong festival celebrating the Wild West! Enjoy trick ropers, gun-slingers, cowboy poetry, square dancing, children’s activities, horseshoe-pitching contests, and an outdoor barbecue!
Learn a square-dancing step or two with dance caller Jordan Ruyle and live music by folk trio Triple Chicken Foot, back by popular demand. See guns in action as fan favorite and world champion gunslinger Joey Dillon amazes the audience in a duo act with newcomer Loop Rawlins, expert rope spinner and whip handler. Participate in trick roping a “cow” with Christy Lewis and her family of roping performers, or try your luck at pitching horseshoes on the lawn with the Southern California Horseshoe Pitchers Association. Families can even decorate their own horseshoes at the Children’s Craft Corral.
Join in a scavenger hunt throughout the museum to find clues about Wild West shows, and learn about the real story of Buffalo Bill in a new display. Plus, see a cowboy-themed Gene Autry Double Feature: The Singing Cowboy (1936) and Loaded Pistols (1949).
Visitors are encouraged to dress in Western wear. However, guns, including replicas, will not be allowed on the premises.
