Route 66 Seminar: Beginning of the Road

How did the building of Route 66 affect local communities from Chicago to Los Angeles? What impact did the development of the road and its iconography have on Native Americans and others who were already living along the route?

Led by Jeffrey Richardson, Gamble Curator of Western History, Popular Culture, and Firearms, the panelists include Shawn Kelley, anthropologist and author of Route 66 & Native Americans in New Mexico; Arthur Krim, author of the recently reissued Route 66: Iconography of the American Highway; and Michael Wallis, author of Route 66: The Mother Road and member of the cast of Cars. Arthur Krim and Michael Wallis will be signing copies of their books after the discussion.
