Senator Holly Mitchell to Host Education Town Hall - Graduation Rates/Common Core Standards
Please join me and Los Angeles Unified School District for a discussion on the Common Core State Standards roll out and improving graduation rates in Los Angeles. I would like to personally invite you and your network to participate in an upcoming Education Town Hall.
In 2010, the California State Board of Education voted to adopt new standards for both mathematics and English-language arts. The new education standards are rigorous, research-based, and designed to prepare every student for success in college and the workforce. State Superintendent Tom Torlakson has directed $622 million in state funding to support the shift to Common Core.
This Education Town Hall will discuss such issues as implementation, resources, and integration beyond the regular school year as districts decide for themselves how to use their share of state funds.
