McKenna, leading in school board race, won’t commit on Deasy
I would question the author’s assertion that Deasy has an “impressive record.” If the district run schools were on a successful trajectory then parents would not be clamoring to enroll their children in charter schools.
The Superintendent’s behavior during school board meetings shows how disinterested he is in receiving input from parents. He is paying teachers not to do their job as they are languishing in teacher jail. He bamboozled voters by using funds earmarked for repair and construction to purchase iPads just so that the district can meet the requirements of a testing provider.
One can only hope that whoever wins the District 1 special election will stand up to Deasy and start to take back control of the district. We need reform that benefits the students, not corporate interests.
