Local Editor?

Does the NoHo Patch still have a local editor? It seems that recently the news is far from local.

Hi Penny, would it be possible to remove the out of state updates from Facebook? The main reason we come to patch is because it's different than the national news we see everywhere else. I keep seeing things from Illinois and it's very frustrating. It never used to be that way.

I totally understand, but we can't. The system is currently set up to FB everything. There's a lot of news that pops up on Patch in the background. We do our best to keep the front page local only. But there's no way for the automatic posting to know what's local and what's not. It's kind of all or nothing, so I have to go with all. Juggling all my sites, I just wasn't getting to social media like I should.

We're working on it. Did you see this article? http://streetfightmag.com/2014/03/06/new-patch-owner-running-company-in-lean-entrepreneurial-mode/

Thanks Penny. I found the very last question the most interesting. I could tell the most active hyper local bloggers in NoHo and EchoPark...... "Any plans for partnerships with other community news providers? We’re working on it. One thing we’re committed to trying to change is the idea that Patch is some sort of outside competitor to hyperlocal bloggers or news sites. Hyperlocal is not a zero-sum game. There’s too much unclaimed territory, and even those who have built audiences in individual communities want more readers and better exposure. There’s no reason a successful hyperlocal news site operator in a given community couldn’t also run the local Patch. They’d benefit from cross-linking on both sites, and might expand their audience and potential advertising base, while also having an opportunity to promote local stories that have national import across a much larger platform. We want to support local voices, period."
