1 Person Killed in Bus, Car Crash

A motorist who rear-ended a Metro bus in North Hollywood was killed Monday and nine people were hospitalized with minor injuries, including at least one child.

The crash occurred just before 3 p.m. at Saticoy Street and Laurel Canyon Boulevard, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department's Brian Humphrey.

The male driver of the car that struck the bus was pronounced dead at the scene.

Paramedics checked about 20 people on the bus, and nine people, including the bus driver, were taken to hospitals. They ranged in age from 5 to 65, and all had very minor injuries, Humphrey said.

The cause of the crash was not immediately known, although Metro spokesman Paul Gonzales said it appears the driver of the car was heading south on Laurel Canyon and ran a red light, striking the Metro bus, which was being driven east on Saticoy.
