UPDATE: 15-Year-Old Boy Shot to Death in North Hollywood Identified

The deadly attack occurs on the 11000 block of Tiara Street, according to police.

A 15-year-old boy was killed in North Hollywood tonight in what police believe was a gang-related shooting.

The shooting was reported around 8:30 p.m. in the 11000 block of Tiara Street, near Oxnard Street, said Officer Karen Rayner of the Los Angeles Police Department's Media Relations section.

The victim, who was fired upon multiple times by a male suspect, was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead, Rayner said.

At the crime scene, LAPD North Hollywood homicide detectives searched for evidence with the help of flashlights, as patrol officers guarded the taped off Tiara Street, near the intersection of Fulcher Avenue.

When asked if there were any new details available about the crime, a North Hollywood police officer who declined to be named, stated that there is still an ongoing investigation and police could not provide any additional information at the moment.

UPDATE: The teen shooting victim was identified today as Miguel Angel Sanchez of North Hollywood, according to Los Angeles police and Craig Harvey of the coroner's office.

Please don't overreact... While the US does have violence in every city... I don't see busses being bombed, or wedding ambush attacks.

I was wondering why the helicopters were buzzing overhead....I'm saddened to hear that yet another youth was lost for nothing...I agree with a lot of what Robert is saying about personal responsibility...but what we need most is God's grace and help...but as a nation, we pretty much ran him out of town...now we are left picking up the pieces...and it isn't pretty....my heartfelt condolences to the Sanchez family...whether or not he was involved in gangs, he was just a child....we'll never know what potential could have emerged...but I pray the ones who did this, turn their lives around and start being a part of the solution instead of being the problem...i would love to hear good things about the victim..can his classmates please elaborate?

I work with inner city kids and I'm afraid that many are out of touch with the parenting issue. Most of these kids were abandoned by there fathers while their mothers work all day. Find good day care on minimum wage, not likely. As far as raising them? If they're lucky enough, older siblings (usually kids themselves) and maybe a good public school teacher/counselor... but public schools only offer so much. I think many miss the point.

Hi everyone. I'm going to ask that from here on out, comments on this thread be kept closer to the topic. When something as shattering as this occurs in our community, it stirs up a lot of emotion and thoughts, some of them about the bigger picture issues in our country and city that can lead to something like this. Everyone here has expressed themselves, and there have been some very thoughtful things expressed on many topics. But moving forward, let's keep the discussion limited to this incident and to North Hollywood. We have a 15-year-old kid, a freshman not even old enough to drive, shot dead. Some of his family and friends have posted comments here, and it is because of these comments we at Patch learned about the fundraiser car wash and were able to do a story on it, and I want his people to feel comfortable to keep posting here on Patch. Since this site launched in 2010, I've seen quite a few children murdered in our streets. Some were completely innocent victims, and some were mixed up in gangs, and that affiliation sometimes is what led to their killing. No matter the reason, in the end I think we all share in the failure to do a better job on many levels.

Knowing that street very well, as I was an active gangbaner on tiara from the late eighties untill about 1999. It truly breaks my heart to see this young kids waste their lives for a false science of pride. I feel for the family of both the victim and the shooter Because these two families will be both left paying the emotional bill in the long run. Also saddens me how we as a community except this as just another gang member dead. Not really sure if Miguel was truly a gang member, but what I am sure of is that he was a 15 YEAR OLD CHILD.... Truly sorry for the families lost

There was someone named "Robert" on this threat that posted some comments that were removed. Three is another "robert" with a lowercase spelling whose comments have not been removed. Any comments that remain that are a reaction to "Robert's" derogatory comments may be confusing to new readers, because his comments have been removed, yet some of the responses remain.

I have received several emails from readers this morning who were moved by this story and would like to donate and help cover the funeral costs, but I'm unsure where to direct them.

Miguel Sanchez was a great person , he knew how to make people smile when he was around . I've had my few memories with him ,everybody who knew him had something good to say . He was ny class mate at two different schools .No one is ever prepared for a tragedy like this . There are no words to justify nor to really console those who lost someone . On July 17th , we lost Miguel Sanchez . With no goodbyes and no warning . We all gather and grieve for this loss . He was a son , a brother , a boyfriend , a best friend , a class mate , but above a he was a human being who was trying to find a purpose in this world , this life . Rest in peace , Miguel <3 you will always be with us in our hearts ,gone but never forgotten .

Such a sad tragedy, he sounds like a wonderful friend. Breaks my heart to read of this happening. I grew up near there attending Sun Valley Jr. High and Poly. Several early 1980s classmates died or went to jail. Many left the valley. Best wishes to all who are grieving. Hopefully Miguel will not have died in vain and his life will inspire others to step away from violence.

With all due respect, Craig. C-14 is the oldest Hispanic gang in LA. They're engaged in many criminal enterprises, including extortion, drug sales, ID theft, burglaries, auto theft, and murder. They're not Boy Scouts. They will kill female or male, or anyone who gets in their way. They're affliated with and founding members of La Eme, the Mexican Mafia. They engage in turf battles based on crime $$$. Only when they go to prison do they stop in-fighting on La Eme's order. The C being "flashed" at the memorial photo represents Clanton 14. The moniker 'Shadow" is a common gangbanger nickname. Is the fact Mr. Sanchez is killed in a drive-by shooting circumstantial? Whether he's an associate, a "jumped in" member, or an innocent victim is an important fact, especially for law-abiding citizens residing in the area, perhaps, a lifesaving fact. The Poster's comment... "lil g...smoke some for the fallen homie." sums it up pretty well. "Lil g" represents Little Gangster. "Homie" represents Hispanic Gangster. After living 32 years in L.A.-- 28 on North Hollywood C-14's turf-- the handwriting appears to be on the wall. Truth not homilies is my mantra. “In the end, I think we all share in a failure to do a better job on many levels." No, not all of us, Craig. Some of us actually dedicate our lives to fighting for what's good in society, opposing crime and the criminals who commit it. More innocent people have died at Banger's hands than otherwise. I detest it and seek the truth.
Craig Clough (Editor) July 26, 2012 at 10:16 PM
I'm not exactly sure what you are driving at, Lightnapper. I am simply asking that comments be kept on topic and not pointed at some grand, large debate about section 8 housing. My point I was trying to make is that as citizens of North Hollywood, we all share in the success or failure or what is happening in our streets. That's my opinion.
Lightnapper July 26, 2012 at 11:11 PM
@ Craig. I'm not driving at anything. I'm stating verifiable, researchable facts, as well as my personal opinion, and in doing so searching for the truth as to what transpired. I do this as an "informed" and aware 34 year North Hollywood resident, many of those years residing in that particular area. I am aware of many C-14 killings in that area-- both as victims and perpetrators. I knew some of the victims. I saw the sheets being placed over the bodies as their blood ran onto the concrete. I knew an OG whose wife was gunned down. When he was in prison, or deported, I was asked to "watch out" for his young daughters, so they wouldn't fall into "la Vida Loco." And they didn't. One graduated from Berkeley. As for Section 8 comments, I was not privy to those. Perhaps, deleted. I also served my city in a capacity others have not, and would fear doing so. Specifically, "we all do not share in a failure...." Only some of us. Now that you've qualified your POV, if I offended you, sorry. My apologizes. I must have misunderstood. Hopefully, the readers will get an accurate update on this seemingly perpetual tragedy.
