the city needs to rethink its ordinances regarding traffic lights, it should be illegal to be IN the intersection when the light goes red, that way drivers would begin stop on the yellow rather than racing on the yellow

The story has been updated with more details. No one died, but two people did end up in the hospital.

That would cause more accidents and traffic jams. First all lights that do not have turn arrows would need to be replaced. Then you would have people slamming on brakes without warning when they see its turning yellow rather than deciding to go or stop.

I agree with Joe, stopping on yellow would cause more accidents and major backups. They would have to install left turn signals on just about every traffic light, causing more backups.

Hellooooooo. !!!!!!! A drunk driver caused the accident not the traffic lights.

There are a few local bars and I have seen and KNOW that over and over many of the regular drinkers with a problem drive drunk on a daily basis down riverside dr.

Just incase anyone does not know, the bars are responsible as well along with the drunk driver. A bar can be held accountable right along with the driver that caused the accident.

Delay the green light a couple seconds after the cross traffic stops. That should be done all over town. DUI once, then should be required to have and pay for in car monitor for life in order to start car. Also a yearly maintenance certification and charge for same should be required on the monitor and paid for by the driver, and driver should only be allowed to drive their own car and pay costs of removal and replacement for new car whenever they buy a new car. That should help and would cause others to think about even attempting to drive under the influence. Treat DUI harshly. It is not to be tolerated, period!

If you want to minimize accidents from Drunk drivers, changing traffic lights and laws about traffic lights will do nothing. What needs to happen is the BAR needs to be held responsible along with the driver. If a law were to be passed that anyone who walks in a bar that wants more than 1 drink..they should have to hand over their car keys and when the drinker leaves to go home they should have to blow into a breathalyzer and if they register ok under the legal limit then they can have their keys back and drive home. If not, the drinker should not be able to leave unless someone drives them home. If the Bar has served so many drinks to a drinker and let's the drinker drive home on too many occasions, the bar should be shut down and penalized for a period of time. The bars need to be held responsible because too much alcohol makes the drinker STUPID, I've seen it over and over, the IQ goes down so the sober bartender and bar needs to be held responsible because the problem drinkers that do it over and over are too stupid and do not know how to be responsible.

My cousins were the two victims involve in the accidents. No one died here not even the irresponsible drunk driver. My poor cousins were heading home after a long day's work!! Both have two children who now have to stay home with relatives & miss out on their mother's love & attention because the careless driver decided to hit the road imparied!! This is so sad, two hard working mom's now have to suffer because of a careless person decision. We are thankful they are alive but the recovery journey won't be easy but it wasn't their time to go. I hope the driver is punish & learns that his actions has change my cousins lives forever. Please pray for all everyone involved because I'm sure at the end of the day every loss in this incident.
