62 NoHo Crimes Reported in October

A local officer says violent crime is down, but thefts from cars remain consistent.

Senior Lead Officer John Catalano stopped by the Mid-Town NoHo Neighborhood Council Wednesday and said crime has slightly increased in the area, up just 1 percent from the same time last year, though he considers that an improvement.

October’s crime stat report compiled by the Los Angeles Police Department showed 62 crimes recorded in NoHo.

A pair of robberies was reported, while most of the incidents were made up of thefts from vehicles, according to the report, which is attached to this story.

Catalano said violent crime is down in the neighborhood and Los Angeles as a whole. The biggest crime problem NoHo continues to face is vehicle burglaries, he said.

To curb the situation, Catalano said six bicycle cops are once again roaming the streets and officers mounted on horses are occasionally patrol.

One member of the council’s board of directors asked whether police investigate bike thefts seriously, to which Catalano said bikes are often recovered, but owners don’t know their serial numbers to the bicycles go unclaimed.

“If there’s anything we can stress tonight, know the serial number of your bicycle,” he said.
