Baby Hospitalized After Falling Into Toilet

The infant is rescued by her mother and remains in serious condition.

A baby girl who was playing with her toddler sister in the bathroom of a North Hollywood home fell head-first into a toilet but was rescued by her mother and flown to a hospital in serious condition.

City fire officials responded to the home in the 8200 block of Laurel Canyon Boulevard shortly before 10 a.m. Tuesday, and the infant was loaded into a medical helicopter from a nearby school.

Los Angeles Police Department Lt. Scott Harrelson told the Los Angeles Daily News the baby was playing with her sister in the bathroom, and the older girl eventually began crying for help. The girls' mother kicked open the locked door and found the infant in the toilet, Harrelson told the paper.

"The baby was blue but slightly breathing," Harrelson told the paper. "The officers were able to open up her airways and she started to cry, which means she was responsive."

The girl was flown to Children's Hospital Los Angeles.
