Car Crash Ruptures Gas Line in Sun Valley

Firefighters this morning sealed off a gas line that was ruptured when a suspected stolen BMW collided with a pickup truck on a freeway off-ramp in Sun Valley and then slammed into a restaurant, injuring a suspect in the car and a passenger in the pickup, police said.

The crash happened about 11:30 p.m. Monday on the Hollywood Way off-ramp from the southbound Golden State (5) Freeway, according to Los Angeles police Sgt. Jim Reid.

"The suspect vehicle blew past one of our black and whites" and by the time (the unit) turned around, the crash had occurred, Reid said.

The BMW came to rest atop a gas meter at The Ramp restaurant at 7730 N. Hollywood Way, Reid said.

Firefighters had the gas supply shut down by 1:30 a.m., he said.

One suspect in the BMW was injured while another ran into the restaurant before he was taken into custody, Reid said, adding that the men are 18 years old.

A third suspect was chased through an apartment complex by Burbank police officers but got away, he said.

A woman who was a passenger in the pickup truck also was injured and taken to a hospital for treatment, Reid said. Her condition was not available.

The Ramp was open at the time of the crash, but no one inside was injured, Reid said.

The business has been owned by Burbank City Councilman Gary Bric since 1993, according to his profile on the city website.
