Car Crashes into North Hollywood Tile Shop

"He ... made a drive-through out of the tile store."

A crash this morning sent a car through the front of a North Hollywood tile store, police said.

The crash happened about noon at the intersection of Sherman Way and Whitsett Avenue, said Sgt. Kurt Smith of the Los Angeles Police Department's Valley Traffic Division.

A red Hyundai coupe driven by an approximately 26-year-old man was northbound on Whitsett when he came upon some other vehicles and was faced with either braking in time or swerving, Smith said.

“I guess he thought swerving was better,” Smith said.

The Hyundai entered southbound lanes, collided with a car that was eastbound on Sherman Way and then careened north, jumping the curb, he said.

“He ... made a drive-through out of the tile store,” Smith said.

The man suffered “a bump on the head” and was taken to a hospital, Smith said, adding that he was not cited or charged.

The 56-year-old driver of the other vehicle, a Chevrolet Malibu, suffered abrasions but was not taken to a hospital, Smith said.

The crash left only the rear of the Hyundai outside the store, Imperial Tile & Stone, at 12501 Sherman Way.

Smith said the car smashed through the glass doors of the main entrance.
