Police kept an eye on a Valley Village crosswalk earlier this month equipped with flashing lights and manned with a crossing guard, but dozens of drivers were still cited and ticketed for blowing through as parents and children walked to a neighborhood school, the Daily News reports.
The sting operation was set at St. Clair Street and Burbank Boulevard, near Burbank Boulevard Elementary School.
“People are in a rush. Sometimes they don’t stop even when you’re crossing the third yellow line out into the crosswalk,” Tonia Morales told the Daily News after dropping off her daughter Priscilla at the Valley Village school. “Many times the crossing guard has to yell at them to stop. I’ve seen him do it many times.”
Overall, 18 pedestrians have been killed in hit-and-runs in the San Fernando Valley so far this year.
One officer said there will be more sting operations like this carried out through the end of the year.
