By City News Service

Police notified the public Thursday that a 30-year- old ex-con charged with a series of sexual batteries against seven girls and women throughout the San Fernando Valley is free on bail as he awaits his next court date.

Irvine Perez, who was identified at a news briefing at the Los Angeles Police Department's North Hollywood Station, was arrested Nov. 6 and pleaded not guilty Friday to one count of sexual battery by restraint and two counts of committing a lewd act on a child -- all felonies.

He also faces nine misdemeanors -- four counts of child molestation, three counts of sexual battery and one count each of indecent exposure and attempted sexual battery.

Perez has been free since Monday, when he posted a $400,000 bond, and is due back in Van Nuys Superior Court on Dec. 5, when a date is expected to be scheduled for a hearing to determine if there is enough evidence to require him to stand trial.

Between June and October, Perez allegedly drove around North Hollywood in an SUV, looking for girls and women who were walking alone. He would allegedly walk up to them and grab their buttocks with his hand and then run, according to LAPD Capt. Steve Carmona.

Perez also allegedly chased a 17-year-girl, trying to kidnap her, exposed himself to one teenager and grabbed another 15-year-old girl twice, once on her arm and once on her buttocks, according to police.

The suspect was convicted in a series of assaults in the San Fernando Valley that occurred between 2006 and 2007 and given a two-year sentence, Detective John Perez said.
