A woman arrested last year on suspicion of crashing her car in North Hollywood while driving drunk and leaving her 4-year-old daughter at the scene pleaded no contest today to DUI, hit-and-run and child abuse charges.
Van Nuys Superior Court Judge Joseph Brandolino immediately sentenced Lisette Gonzalez Avakian, 36, to 10 years and eight months in state prison, according to Deputy District Attorney Andrew Barras.
Avakian was arrested Sept. 28, 2011, after being discovered hiding behind some bushes near the scene of the crash.
Avakian had left her 4-year-old daughter in the vehicle, which had overturned. Two of her other children -- a 1-year-old and a 3-month-old -- were later found unattended at her home, according to Barras.
Avakian pleaded no contest to three counts of child abuse and one count of leaving the scene of an accident -- all felonies, along with two misdemeanor counts each of DUI and hit-and-run driving and one misdemeanor charge of being an unlicensed driver, according to Barras.
