Explosion Rocks North Hollywood; Homes Evacuated

Los Angeles Police say the blast on Miranda Street was reported at 12:25 a.m.

An explosion in a pickup truck parked behind a house rocked a North Hollywood neighborhood this morning, shattering windows in at least one home and prompting evacuations, police said.

The blast at 11318 Miranda Street was reported at 12:25 a.m., according to Sgt. Mike Kammert of the Los Angeles Police Department's North Hollywood Station.

Police and firefighters arrived on scene and determined that the explosion occurred inside the cab of the pickup truck, which had its roof blown off, Kammeert said.

Fire department personnel got close enough to the pickup to determine there was at least one propane tank inside and at that point an LAPD bomb squad was called in, Kammert said.

No injuries were reported. Some residents living within a square block of where the blast occurred were evacuated from their homes, Kammert said, adding that the evacuations were not mandatory and some people sheltered in place.

The bomb squad was en route to the scene shortly before 3 a.m., he said.
