Extra DUI Patrols Planned for NoHo Saturday

As Super Bowl Sunday approaches, authorities warned Southlanders they will be out in force this weekend, looking for people driving while impaired.

In North Hollywood, the Los Angeles Police Department will begin conducting an eight-hour “DUI saturation patrol” of extra officers 6 p.m. Saturday.

“For football fans, Super Bowl Sunday is one of the best days of the year,” Glendora police Chief Tim Staab said.

“Have a great time, but please don't allow the celebration to result in a drunk-driving arrest,” Staab said. “Act responsibly, designate a sober driver before the Super Bowl party begins, and leave your car keys at home.”

Law enforcement personnel will conduct stepped-up patrols and sobriety/driver's license checkpoints at various times this weekend.

Among the increased enforcement efforts:

  • Saturday at 8 p.m., the LAPD will begin a six-hour sobriety/driver's license checkpoint on Reseda Boulevard near Sherman Way
  • Sunday at 2 p.m., the LAPD will begin eight-hour DUI saturation patrol in the Central Bureau's jurisdiction, which includes downtown Los Angeles
  • Sunday at 5 p.m., the LAPD will begin eight-hour DUI saturation patrols in the West Valley and South Los Angeles areas
  • Sunday at 7 p.m., the LAPD will begin an eight-hour DUI saturation patrol in the Hollywood area

Anyone seeing a suspected drunken driver was urged to call authorities.
