An exchange of gunfire in North Hollywood between two pairs of men left three people wounded and two suspects -- one wounded -- in police custody today.
The first shooting near Sherman Way and Whitsett Avenue was reported at 1:51 p.m., Los Angeles police Officer Nuria Vanegas said. Police found two wounded men near a body shop, one of them critically hurt, Venegas said, adding that paramedics took them to hospitals.
A second shooting was reported a few minutes later at Laurel Canyon Boulevard and Keswick Street, about a mile north of the first shooting, Venegas said.
Officers found one of two men in a white BMW wounded, Venegas said.
"Officers determined the two shootings were connected and believe the two men in the car were the primary shooters," Venegas said.
The wounded suspect was taken to a hospital, and police detained the other man, she said.
The first two men wounded were described as being in their 50s, KCAL reported.
A gun was seized from the BMW, but police have not yet determined a motive, Venegas said.
